Bush Life in Tasmania by James Fenton
First published in 1891 written by a resident of Forth who owned property at River Don and elsewhere. The self-declared man responsible for releasing blackberries into Tasmania. Information on the founding of various places along the North West coast of Tasmania and what early life was like there. A first hand account of 1830s-1860s.
With the Pioneers by Charles Ramsay
Published in 1957 a history of Port Sorrell to Forth area, early settlers and accompanied by some photos. A record of a lot of firsts – shipbuilding, telegraph, post office services etc.
Sawdust, Sails and Sweat by Faye Gardham
Published in 1996 covering early settlement of River Don area. Great photos, maps and personal histories as well as a history of the Don River Saw Mill and key businessmen involved. Key historical period the work covers is 1850s-1910.
The Gold Rush by David Hill
History of mainland Australia gold rushes. Some nice quotes from newspapers that give the story in words from the time. Published in 2010.
